As a full time painter I travel prepared for almost any kind of weather. I was in Nahant, Massachusetts last Tuesday and though the location was ideal the sun was popping in and out of clouds. I knew the variation in brightness on my canvas was going to get distracting. Waiting for the light to calm down was not an option as the forecast was predicting more of the same for the rest of the day.
So I chose a simple subject and I made sure to use my umbrella to keep the light steady where it matters most; over the canvas and the workspace.
