While wandering an abandoned beach in Franklin County, Florida last month I spotted this trawler stuck high and dry near Carabelle. It looked beaten up from hard work and hard weather and was a compelling subject for a painting.
So I set myself up on the side of the road with an umbrella to keep the sun off my canvas and gave it a shot. I drew in the boat first and then the setting with the palmetto. I then used light cobalt blue for the bold punch of the boat and then a mix of pthalo blue, light cadmium red and soft mixing white for the softer blue of the sea.
A passerby who watched me make the painting snapped some pictures and was kind enough to send them to me.
