This painting from the highway to Carabelle from Apalachicola needed a bit more work today. It was painted from a plein air study done in early February 2017.
I brightened the foliage with some golden green and red and brought in some light to make the fronds more transparent in the palm trees.
It was a smokey afternoon as the estuaries were treated with a controlled burn by the environmental management teams. More about this in another post coming up. But I tried to capture the thick atmosphere and the scent of burnt grass.
I can smell it. Success!
